BJP would be fielding its candidates in the Inner and Outer Parliamentary Constituencies in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, informed State BJP Unit president and Member of Parliament Thounaojam Chaoba.
Talking to reporters at the State Guest House here today soon after his arrival from Hyderabad where he had been to take part in the National Executive meeting of the party on January 11 and 12, Chaoba disclosed that the BJP's High Command had given instruction to field party candidates both in the Inner as well as Outer Parliamentary Constituencies.
When asked whether there is any arrangement for fielding a common candidate of the Opposition DPA, Chaoba said there is no such arrangement as of now.
But he did not rule out the possibility and informed that a joint meeting of all the constituent parties of DPA would be soon called to discuss the matter.
He noted that the Hyderabad meeting of the BJP National Executive and the meeting of all the State Unit presidents and office bearers of the party at the Centre unanimously proposed to hold the Lok Sabha election earlier and accordingly the party had entrusted the Prime Minister to announce a favourable date for conducting the poll.
In view of the proposal for early Lok Sabha election, a short Parliamentary session for passing Vote on Account would be convened and after dissolving the Parliament, Election Commission would be informed to fix a date for the Lok Sabha election, he said.
Informing that the National Executive Meeting had resolved to organize a nation-wide Prime Minister Shahayok Jatra ahead of announcement of poll date and to coincide with the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on January 23, Chaoba said that as for Manipur the Shahayok Jatra would be organized at Moirang by taking out a mass public rally besides motor cycle rallies at various parts of the valley.
The newly elected party president also informed that a mass public rally would also be taken out at the capital city Imphal here on February 2 followed by a meeting at Mapal Kangjeibung during which the development works being taken up by the Prime Minister would be announced and the misdeeds of the Congress-led SPF Government would be exposed.
Expressing confidence that not less than 300 BJP candidates would be elected in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election, Chaoba said that Congress fate of the Congress party has been sealed as it lacks vision unlike BJP which has started taking up steps for making India a developed nation by 2020.Chaoba asserted that the position of the party has been further consolidated with his becoming the party chief.
Beside the three ex-Ministers which have agreed to come into the fold of BJP, seven councillors of Bishnupur Municipal Council including its chairperson and vice chairperson have left behind DRPP and joined BJP today, he informed.
Chaoba also accorded warm welcome to N Sanajaoba who had been elected from Bishnupur Assembly Constituency on DRPP ticket along with his 27 followers as well as to S Lala who got elected on MPP ticket from Keirao Assembly Constituency on coming into the fold of BJP.
