With the primary aim of helping the State tide over the present financial crunch, Union Finance Ministry has asked the State Govt to submit its expenditure statement for the last five years, disclosed a highly placed source.
Informing that the Govt has begun preparing the expenditure statement for the last five years, the source added that the report may be submitted to the Union Finance Ministry next week.
It may be noted here that the amount spent from State's annual plan every year during the last five years are Rs 369 crores (1997-98), Rs 354 crores (1998-1999), Rs 357 crores (1999-2000), Rs 283 crores (2000-01), Rs 290 crores (2001-02) and Rs 197 crores (2002-03).Meanwhile, Union Planning Commission while informing that the State resources have decreased considerably in the last few years has also given strong instructions to the State Govt to halt the downslide trend.
The Commission also demands a clarification from the State Govt on the charges that a large portion of the annual plan's money is being spent on purposes other than developmental works.
The source also stated that the present financial crunch being faced by the State is largely due to the meager Non Plan funds (Rs 1850 crores) given to the State Govt by the Centre during the last five years.
It also added that State's Non Plan deficit in the next five years will be about about Rs 7500 crores.
