The members of Shree Digambar Jain Samaj, Manipur donated Rs one lakh to the PM's national relief fund in the wake of Tsunami catastrophe and they presented a demand draft of the amount to Dr SS Sidhu, Governor of Manipur.
The members of Associated Chamber of Commerce Charitable Trust, Imphal also donated Rs 20,000 to the fund.
The Governor thanked the members of the association and expressed satisfaction on the deep concern of the members of the association for the victims of Tsunami tragedy.
A farewell meeting of two retired doctors and the account officer of RIMS was held this afternoon in the examination hall.
The retired doctors are Dr P Nishikanta, professor and head of anaethesiology, Dr V Hoping, professor and head of surgery department.
K Apabi was the chief accounts officer in charge.
PL Thanga, planning adviser, NEC said the spectacular achievements made by RIMS were not properly publicised.
He underlined the need to make necessary publicity.
He also proposed one minute silence to mourn the deaths caused by Tsunami.
The employees also decided too donate one day's pay as relief fund.
Prof L Fimate, Director RIMS supported the decision to publicise the works done by RIMS.
All heads of departments, office bearers of teaching and non teaching associations were present in the meeting.
In Chennai relief operations are continuing and Army, Navy and Coast Guards have been assisting the local administration.
412 relief camps have been opened where over 3,00,000 persons are staying.
750 doctors have been deputed from outside the affected districts.
Two Chetak Helicopters, Two Dornier Aircrafts, Indian Naval ships and one Coast Guard helicopters were deployed at Nagipattnam.
Indian Navy diving team is continuing operations in Vellar River in Chennai for clearance of fishing nets and location of dead bodes.
