The JAC Against Delay in Construction of Salanthong Bridge today set deadline to complete the construction works of Salanthong bridge over Imphal river connecting Khurai Nandeibam Leikai with Lairikyengbam Leikai within April this year.
Talking to reporters today at a press conference held at Social Standard Club, president of the JAC, N Hera said that the bridge which connects the NH-39 with Imphal-Ukhrul road is a very important one for the two localities.
Incontinences are facing by the residents of the Khurai Nandeibam Leikai and Lairikyengbam Leikai for the last 10 years since the dismantled of the earlier old bridge for the construction of the new bridge by the state authority.
Since the dismantled of the old bridge due to deteriorated condition, people are using a wooden temporary bridge for such a long time.
The construction work of the new bridge was also started in 2005 after a delay of five year since the dismantled of the old bridge.
He also recalled that last year also, residents of the area raised up anguish over the delay in the construction works of the bridge.
But with the assurance from the authority to complete the work at the earliest, the agitation of the people was suspended.
At that time, the construction was recommenced but stopped later with the reason best known to the authority and contractor of the bridge, he said reiterating that if the construction work is not completed by April this year, they will launch various forms of agitations.
