A public meeting of residents of Yurembam and its surrounding in Imphal west district decided to ban entry of staffs of the Power Grid Co-operation of India and its vehicles if the authority takes up necessary action to review from acquisition of land for expansion of power sub-station at Yurembam on or before January 5 next year.
The Power Grid Co-operation of India (PGCI) is efforting to take over more land for installation of 400 KV Power Sub-station as part of upgradation of the existing sub-station at Yurembam in Imphal west district.
A public meeting under the initiative of the Yurembam-Patsoi-Toubungkhok Land Protection Demand Committee was held today at Turembam Huidrom Lairembi Lampak.
The meeting adopted six point resolution among which to oppose any move of takeover of more land citing that the authority had taken over 60 acres of land in two phases since the installation of the power sub-station at Yurembam.
Before the meeting was convened, residents of Yurembam, Patsoi, Toubungkhok came to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister.
They were blocked by the police at Kwakethel.
There was a heated exchange of words between the police and people.
Police later allowed to proceed some representatives of people and submit the memorandum.
However, they submitted the memorandum to the staff of the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
While opposing the land takeover move of the authority, a spokesperson told grievances facing by the people since the installation of the power sub-station giving reasons for opposing the land takeover.
Above this, the land to be taken is cultivable land and taking over of the land will amount to snatching of people's livelihood.
