Imphal, April 15 2010: A meeting of the State Level Committee to Combat Child Trafficking had been held to discuss the nature of the awareness programmes to be conducted for the parents.

Headed by Chief Secretary as chairman, Commissioner of Social Welfare is the convenor of the State Level Committee while DGP, Directors of Social Welfare, Law Department, Labour Department, Transports, DIPR and NGOs working in the field of child welfare projects are the members.

According to Director of Social Welfare Department Seityabati, , squad party at the State level as well as district level have been formed to combat child trafficking.

The district level squad party would be headed by the District Programme Officer of the Social Welfare and there would be two Supervisors who would be working as squad members.

Apart from finding out whether any child have gone missing, the district level squad party would also conduct awareness programmes for the district level NGOs, civil societies, line departments and parents on how child trafficking should be stopped.

Telephone facilities would also be provided to facilitate communication with the District Programme Officers in this regard.

Seityabati further informed that the line departments would be entrusted with the responsibility of finding out the inherent talent and skill of the rescued children staying in rehabilitation centres for taking up necessary measures.

If necessary, vocational training would also be provided to such children.

Along with suggestion on further necessary steps to be taken up, Social Welfare Department would be submitted a report on the children who have been rescued so far to the State Level Committee to Combat Child Trafficking very soon, she informed.

To verify the report of another 47 children being kept confined in unhealthy environment in Tamil Nadu, chairman of Child Welfare Committee, Chandel and a district squad member have been despatched and they have been confirmed by the Commissioner Social Defence of Tamil Nadu that there is no such case, Seityabati added.
