Non-Congress parties agree on common candidates

Imphal, May 31 2013 : The non-Congress political parties in the State have arrive at a consensus on bringing out common candidates for both the Inner and Outer Parliamentary Constituency in the Lok Sabha election scheduled in 2014 .

However, decision as to who should be fielded as common candidates or under what flag the candidates would be fighting in the election would be discussed and finalized in a meeting slated on June 19 next.

The decision to field common candidates Lok Sabha election was taken during a meeting held at Hotel Imphal here today.

The meeting was attended by Th Chaoba of BJP; O Joy and M Sobhakiran of MPP; N Kabita of BSP; A Aja of NPF; L Thoiren of CPI; Samungou of Siva Sena; Rk Sivachandra of Trinamool Congress; N Gyaneshwar of AIFB; Loken of MSCP; Mani Goshwami of JD (S); Kh Devenkishore and Sarat Salam of CPI (M) .

Talking to mediapersons in this regard after the meeting at the office of JD (U), Babupara here today, M Tombi, President of JD (U), Manipur Pradesh stated that in order to defeat the Congress party, which has been the main cause of all the sufferings of the people in Manipur today, the non-Congress parties have come together cutting across party lines and leaving behind all the differences, and decided to field common candidates in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

However, the meeting held today did not finalise on who should be the common candidates.

The decision in this regard would be taken in the next meeting which will be held on June 19 next, Tombi said.

He further stated that the today's meeting condemned the incident of killing of a Manipuri girl in South Delhi and observed two minutes silence and shared the sorrow of the bereaved family members.

Highlighting the problem of scarcity of water supply to the general public by the State Government, Tombi pointed out that even though there is not a single drop of water coming through water pipe, people of the State, particularly Imphalites, can avail abundant supply of water through huge water tanks on payment.

He also charged the State Government with not providing sufficient power supply.

In connection with the problems being faced by the general public and the drivers while passing along the NHs in the State, Tombi further pointed out that the demand for setting up Highway Protection Force has been turned down by the State Government.

As a result, various cases of lootings and extortions along the NHs continue to persist.

Of late, there has also been a case of abducting a driver by unknown miscreants.

With a number of serious issues prevailing in the State including hike in price of essential commodities, pathetic road conditions leading to serious health hazards, the Government should wake up and start thinking for the betterment of the general public.

If at all the Government thinks and cares for the people, it should try and rectify all the mistakes committed in the past and not counteract whenever the Opposition point out these faults, Tombi added.
