UNLF calls for united "liberation struggle" on 44th anniv

Imphal, December 02 2008: THE MANIPUR based United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has urged all groups such as the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) and other Kuki militant groups of Manipur, that entered into peace processes, to review their decisions and rejoin the struggle.

The central committee of the UNLF made their appeal in a statement on the occasion of its 44th anniversary which was celebrated on November 24 last.

"UNLF Central Committee call upon the collective leadership, cadres and fighters of the NSCN (IM) to consider withdrawing from the 'ceasefire' and 'peace-talk' so as to fight together for liberating the entire region from India occupation" the release said, adding "We also extend our appeal to the Kuki armed groups under Suspension of Operation to come out of it and shoulder the common responsibility for building an independent future".

The statement cum 20-page booklet reaffirmed the outfit's stand of not entering into any ceasefire or peace talks with the Centre or the state government.

UNLF is the outfit that proposed holding of a plebiscite under the supervision of the United Nations to bring a peaceful solution to the armed conflict in Manipur.

The proposal came up on January 31, 2005 but the government failed to respond.

In its message on the occasion of its 44th Anniversary, 24 November 2008, the UNLF Central Committee extends hearty revolutionary greetings to the entire people of Manipur.

Stating that the most important issue that has confronted the erstwhile independent state of Manipur ever since the annexation by India in 1949 is the Manipur-India Conflict arising therefrom, it recalled the previous year's statement wherein the outfit had called for satisfactory resolution of the conflict through a Plebiscite conducted under UN aegis while reiterating its political line for fraternal coexistence and co development among all the ethnic communities of Manipur and the region at large respecting one another's distinct identities.

The UNLF message on its 44th anniversary also recalled that its last year's pledge for delving upon the growing alienation of the people from the Revolutionary Organisations fighting for Manipur's independence, renewed appeal to all the fraternal revolutionary organisations for unity in the larger interest of the liberation struggle, propounding of an Essential Self Reliant Economy and announcement of a National Economic Policy (NEP) to transform Agriculture, the basis for our economic development, into an industry, development of Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) as the leading factor of our economy, and empowerment of our womenfolk to build an economic movement at grassroots level.
