Imphal, October 19 2011:
Raising their voice against 'the indifferent attitude' of their university authority, the students' organization of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Regional Campus Manipur has threatened to continue with their agitation saying they would even opt for the 'most extreme way'.
The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students' Welfare (IGNTUSW), Regional Campus Manipur said that the students in the university have their own share and right to study like other universities.
They said the students' body had approached and urged the state Chief Minister, the state Education Minister, the Chairman of Hill Area Committee (HAC), and various other leaders to help them but nothing has been done so far despite their assurances.
During a meeting between a professor representative of the varsity and leaders of IGNTUSW held on October 4 at Hotel Classic here, it was officially agreed between the two that the authority would resolve the matter as soon as possible and communicate the same to the students body in written on or before October 17 .
In the meeting, an 18 Point Agreement was also signed which included, Semester Examination question setting and answer evaluation should be done by the Regional Campus, infrastructures like library, class room(s), computers with Internet facilities would be provided and immediate shifting of the RCM site at Makhan.
They said they also agreed to call off the stir if their demand or the assurance was fulfilled within October 17 and they were preparing to sit in the 2nd Semester Exam.
But the university authority bluffed the students with false promises.
IGNTUSW further appealed to all the tribals of Manipur to extend their best cooperation morally and practically to the cause of the students of this university.
