MANIPUR government is likely to get Rs 100 crores from the Centre's department of north east development, DoNER for the construction of Loktak Down Stream Project, official source said today.
Mention may be made that the state government has been insisting the Centre and DoNER to provide Rs.100 crores each for the construction of the project which is targeting to generate 66 MW of power.
But regarding the Centre's assistant, there is no signal for sanctioning the funds from the Union ministry of finance, the source said.
But DoNER has intimated the state planning department to put up a proposal to the Centre for allowing to take funds for the construction of the project from other funding agencies, the source added.
A report in reply to the intimation has also been called up a report from the chief engineer of the state electricity department regarding their appraisal.
The report will be sent within the next two or three days.
After furnishing the report, DoNER has assured to sanction the fund they agreed to provide, the source said.
If the Centre allow to the sanctioned Rs.200 crores for the construction of the project, the state government is expecting to save the expenditure in buying the power from outside.
Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohon singh had agreed to take up the Loktak Down Stream Project.
Apart obtaining forest and environment clearance for taking up the project is nearly on completion.
But the commencement of the works has been delayed in efforting to get funds from the Central government, the source said.
