Imphal, November 14 2008:
CHILDREN OF Senapati and Tamenglong districts celebrated Children's Day commemorating the 119th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru today with utmost fervor and enthusiasm, a PIB (Defence Wing) statement informed.
Troops of 57 Mtn Div organised cultural programs for the local children at various locations which included Tamenglong, Lairouching and Maram, Apart from games and competitins, the children were given motivational lectures on the importance of studies, the dangers of drug abuse and were advised to stay away from unlawful activities.The celebrations culminated with the distribution of sweets and prizes to the winners of various competitions, it stated.
The Children's Day was also celebrated at Sainik School, Imphal.
A painting competition (open) was held on three different themes�AIDS Awareness, Global Warmingand Pollution where more than 70 students explored their creativity.
Thereafter an essay writing competition for junior and senior categories was held in which more than 100 students participated.
The topic of the competition was "India's Mission to Moon' which was conducted in three different languages � English, Hindi and Manipuri.
The students were exhorted to emulate the life of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who was a great statesman, philosopher and writer, another press release from the PIB (Defence Wing) stated.
The Children's Day was also celebrated at Konsam Thoungam Popular Primary School at Khurai Konsam Leikai.
MLA of Khurai AC, Dr Ng Bijoy was the chief guest.
Assistant Head Master of the school presided and officials of Imphal East Zonal Education Zone-II attended the function as guests of honour.
Painting and mathematics competitions were also held on the occasion.
