Local womenfolk staged a sit-in-protest at Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai today in denunciation of monetary demand imposed against a particular family allegedly by the KCP-MC (Lamyanba Khuman) group while employees of Minor Irrigation Department demonstrated demanding safe release of the Department's Section Officer believed to be in the custody of the armed PULF-MI Khan group.
The protestors at Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai demanded that the outfit withdraw the demand and appealed for enabling the family live in peace.
According to information received by the press the family has only two female members and both are diabetes patients.
The armed group reportedly served a demand note of Rs 2 lakh to one of the sisters namely Thokchom Manglembi Devi (45) on January 4 with the insistence that the demanded amount should be paid within five days.
Manglembi is said to be an organiser of a local welfare programme based on periodical collection of money from members and disbursal of the accumulated amount through draw of lots, known as Marup in the local parlance.
