Bharat Nirman Campaign begins at Khangshim

Khangshim/Chandel, October 29 2013: A three-day long Bharat Nirman Public Information campaign organised by Press Information Bureau Imphal in collaboration with various other sister organisations began from today at Koshang Memorial Community hall in Khangshim village of Chandel District.

Inaugurating the campaign as Chief Guest, Lok Sabha MP Thangso Baite said that UPA-II Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chairperson of UPA Sonia Gandhi launched various programmes for the benefits to common people living across the country.

However, these programmes would not be successful if there is no public participation.

Hence, the importance of public information campaign to make common masses aware of the various programmes launched by the Government at the centre.

The MP from Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency observed that Food Security Act and Land Acquisition Act are the two ambitious Acts passed by the Indian Parliament.

These two Acts will be able to take care of the need of all the people of the country irrespective of caste and creed.

"India is a fast developing country.

Multinational companies will be entering the country.

Land Acquisition Act will protect the land owners when these companies attempt to occupy their land.

On the other hand, Food Security Act, which aims to cover 80 crore people of the country, will keep hunger away.

Hunger will be a history in India", he maintained.

Deputy Commissioner of Chandel district Th.Chittaranjan Singh, who was Guest of Honour of the function, also noted that many programmes have been launched by the Government at the centre to give benefits to the people of the country and also to improve economy and standard of life of the common masses.

All these programmes are target oriented.

So, these welfare programmes will not see the light of development if the general public are not aware of them.

The head of the district administration pointed out that there is a programme called social audit, which will check whether the Government programmes are being successfully implemented or not.

So, all the people have to remain alert to see and monitor whether the programmes are launched in their areas in true spirit or not.

In his Presidential speech of the inaugural functin, MLA D.K.Korungthang said that the time has come for all to understand whether the common people are getting the benefits of the programmes launched by the Government or not.

The Total sanitation programme was launched but sanitary items are lying idle without distributing them to the beneficiaries.

So, the time has also come to gauge the mood of the masses whether they are really happy with all these programmes launched by the Government or not, because feedbacks are not coming from the common masses.

The MLA went on to observe that the role of MPs and MLAs is to frame policies and these policies and programmes are to be translated by the bureaucrats into action.

But the role of MPs and MLAs has risen again to check whether these bureaucrats are doing their duty of reaching to the needy common masses.

He also appealed to all to work hard to get more benefits from the Government because the latter supports all those who work hard.

Premlata Loitam MCO, PIB Imphal gave the welcome address of the inaugural function while George in- charge of DFP, Chandel proposed the vote of thanks.

The inaugural function was marked by presentation of opening song and a drama by the artistes of Bashikhong Dramatic Association, Imphal.

Earlier, the chief guest opened exhibition stalls and a DAVP exhibition, which formed part of the Bharat Nirman Campaign.

In the technical session of the first day of the campaign, Editor of Manipur Mail N Sanatomba, EE of PHED Chandel A.Nikunja Singh and Senior Journalist Brozendra Ningomba spoke on the topic of Food Security Act, Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme and Land Acquisition Bill respectively as resource persons.
