The director of Manipur Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Thingbaijam Jeevan, kidnapped by underground on extortion demand along with his driver on last Monday, was released today at a place in Senapati district.
The director was kidnapped by suspected cadres of the United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) on last Monday allegedly demanding Rs 80 lakh demanded from the department as a total amount of 10 percent from the monthly allocates funds to the department.
The director was picked by the family after the kidnappers informed them of releasing him safe and sound at a place in Senapati district.
The director reached home this morning, family said.
Saying that his health condition is bad, family refused to meet him despite insistences from the reporters.
Police also got the information but no verification to the director is yet to conduct, a police officer in Imphal police station where a case was registered in connection with the kidnapping incident after the commissioner of the department lodged a complaint.
