Meeting sets Feb 8 deadline

Imphal, January 29, 2011: A public meeting held today at MDU, Yaiskul Policelane has set February 8 deadline for booking of culprit(s) with hard evidences in the murder of BSEM chairman, N Kunjabihari.

The JAC formed in connection with the murder of the BSEM chairman on January 11 organised the public meeting in which leaders and representatives of various civil organisations took part.

Representatives of Apunba Lup, HERICOUN, DESAM, AMSU, MSF, KSA, Senior Citizens for Society, UPF, MEELAL, Nupi Samaj, NIPCO etc.

were among other who took part in the meeting.

N Binoy president, Senior Citizens for Society, RK Rajendra, former member of MHRC, prof (retired) N Sadananda, Th Iboyaima, social worker were in the podium of the meeting.

After a thorough deliberation, civil and student organisations agreed to extend support to any kinds of agitations launch by the JAC if the state government fails to meet the February 8 deadline set by the meeting unanimously.

Within the set deadline, government should book the culprit(s), that too with hard evidence to proof that the charge level against accused person(s).

Until February 18, civil and student organisations will remain close watch to the development.

If government remains silent till the expiry of the deadline, the JAC will intensify the agitation from the next day.

At the same time, the meeting also resolved to relax banned imposing on the official works at the Board of Secondary Education for sometime after the sharda ceremony of Kunjabihari on February 1. Speaking at the meeting, RK Rajendra recalled the role taken part by Kunjabihari for reformation of the education system for improving quality education and said that his killing was not a good for the society.

Such a killing seemingly a conspiracy one should not taken lightly by the government as well as by the society, he said insisting government to find the culprit(s) at the earliest.

Prof N Sadananda observed that killing of Kunjabihari is like murder of democracy and education asserting that he was man of education who worked tirelessly for the improvement of education system in the state.

If such type of killing is continued unabated in the state, there would no person who could work sincerely for the upliftment of the Manipuri society.

Authority should find out who had killed him for what reason and befitting punishment should be awarded so that such type of cowardly killing is checked for recurring.

People should also press the government to deliver justice in the killing, he added.
