Imphal, November 15 2008: A MAN who had failed to pay monthly alimony to his wife and children has been sent to jail by the Family Court, Manipur today.

Khundrakpam Sanahongba of Sagoltongba Makha Leikai, according to the case dossier, had failed to pay monthly maintenance money to his wife named Khundrakpam ongbi Moirangthem Ningol Ithoi Devi of Naoremthong Shamushang Uku who filed a case for claiming monthly maintenance from her husband in 2006 .

The court disposed the case in November of the same year 2006 with a ruling that Sanahongba should pay monthly maintenance allowance at the rate of 900 per month to her wife and two minor children.

However, he did not comply with the court's directive.

The court responding to an appraisal to stating that her husband did not comply with the court's directive to pay monthly maintenance issued a show cause notice which the husband did not returned reply even after the expiry of the court notice.

The court then issued a warrant of arrest of Sanahongba to the officer in-charge, Patsoi police station where the residence of the husband lies within it jurisdiction.

Sanahongba was arrested by the police and produced before the court today and remanded to judicial custody till November 29 .

The case was filed by Ithoi Devi at the initiative of the Human Rights Law Network, Manipur, a statement of the body said.
