Imphal, February 07 2010: Heritage Convent, a private school in Imphal West district was ransacked today by irate parents and guardians over monthly fee collections for the period on which classes were not held following the boycott call by three students organization.

Timely intervention by the police saved the school from total destruction.

However, parents and guardians of the school decided not to send their wards till a consensus between the newly form body of the parents and school management is reached.

The matter of whether fees for the period on which no classes were conducted during the four month class boycott stir called by three students' bodies, AMSU, MSF and KSA arose when the agitating students' bodies withdrew the stir in the first week of January this year.

Today, parents and guardians of the Heritage Convent School, Uripok in Imphal west converged at the school premise when the school authority announced that they would collect fee for 13 months including three months from January to March 2010 as government has effected a change in the academic session of the schools under the Board of Secondary Education and Council of Higher Secondary School Education.

Anger erupted among the parents and guardians when they were told of the decision of the school authority and started attacking to the school by pelting stones, sticks etc.

resulting in damages of window panes and doors of the school.

The chaotic situation was brought under control before large scale damage could be caused to the school by police who rushed to the school on getting the information and brought the situation under control.

Later, parents and guardians gathered at Houdam Mandhop of Uripok Ahanthem Leikai and discussed the stand of the school authority with regard to fee collection.

The meeting formed a body called Heritage Convent Parents/Guardians Association with the constitution of an adhoc committee with A Marjit as president.

The meeting drafted a four point resolutions among which are included not to send their wards till a settlement on the fee collection is arrived at between the newly floated body and the school authority.

The meeting resolved to pay fee for only one month for the school closure period from September to December, 2009 and not to pay fees for the month of January, February and March, 2010.To start payment of fee from the month on the school starts its new session.

The newly formed association in its resolution asked the School authority to refund fees for the months which are to be exempted without any kind of adjustments.

It also appealed to transport operators of the school to stop services till an amicable solution to the matter is reached.
