Imphal, January 06 2010:
The whole population of around 4700 people of Moyon community of the State are all set to congregate under one roof for three days starting January 15 at Komlathabi village of Chandel district.
The occasion is the silver jubilee celebration of their Church association.
"We are expecting cent percent attendance in the coming Moyon Baptist Association's silver jubilee celebration slated for January 15 to 18", said Reverend W Roel Moyon.
The organising committee has raised a handsome fund of Rs 1.5 lakh for hosting the grand event, which will be marked with different cultural programmes like gospel services, traditional dance, grand feasts and other entertainment items, added the Reverend.
He added that it was possible only because of the dedication of Moyons to Christianity and their faith to the Almighty Lord.
The fund was raised through voluntary donation and all the names of these great believers of the Lord would be inscribed in memorial stones.
Residing mostly in Chandel district, Moyons are said to the second least populated indigenous community in the State, next to Tarao tribe.
Reverend W Roel Moyon said, although Moyons embraced Christianity about a century back, the Church association came into existence in 1985 .
Mentioning on their dedication to Christianity, the Reverend said, at a time when most people were scared to convert themselves into Christianity, Moyons came out as Church evangelists about 80 years back.
He said, Moyons originated from Khongjon village, atop Chandel hills but gradually scattered at areas like Komlathabi and its adjoining Kapaam villages in 1940s.Saying that Moyons came down to valley areas for pursuing good education, Reverend W Roel added, more than 90 percent of the tribe are literate, which is very high comparing to State literacy rate.
