Imphal, October 30 2008:
THE TWO powerful student bodies Democratic Students' Alliance, Manipur (DESAM) and All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) have demanded removal of the Chairman, the Secretary and the Controller of the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur for serious lapses in the recently declared result of the HSLC Examination (Old Course) conducted by the BSEM.
The two student bodies have threatened to launch an intense form of agitation unless the top level officers of the Board are removed from their post by November 10 .
Talking to media persons Secretary General of AMSU, T Premananda said that in the result of the HSLC Examination (Old Course) conducted by the Board, candidates, whose examination forms had already been rejected by the Board at the time of submission, were found in the list of withheld Roll numbers.
It shows that certain School Headmasters in connivance with the top officials of the Board had indulse in corruption.
Therefore the Education Minister must take appropriate action against those officials by November 10.If no action is taken within the this time, DESAM and AMSU will jointly launch an intense form of agitation from November 11, Premananda announced.
He further said that it was very unfortunate that while people have been demanding quality education in the state, the authority of the Board and some schools conspired and committed wrong deeds.
The fact that candidates whose forms had been rejected before the examination were found in the list of 'withheld' in the result.
This is a clear example of corruption.
The one man inquiry committee is not reliable, Premananda said.
He also demanded cancellation of registration of the schools involved in the scandal.
General Secretary of DESAM, Y Ratan said, AMSU and DESAM had informed the Board of its serious lapses on October 23.However, the action of the Board has thrown a challenge to the people.
Students with fake certificates are allowed to appear in examination.
It means that the people's demand for quality education has been ignored.
Therefore, action should be taken against those involved in the corrupt act, Ratan said.
He further said that certificates should not be given to the candidates who were wrongly allowed to appear in the examination by the Board.
Those students should not be admitted in any school.
If they are found given admission in any school, that school should bear responsibilities for the consequences, he warned.
