CM urges Congress workers to monitor flagship programmes

Imphal, March 30 2011: Chief Minister, O Ibobi today urged the Congress workers in the state to monitor implementation of the Centre sponsored flagship programmes implementing in the state saying that there was the need for overlooking whether the works are taken up with quality control.

Addressing at an awareness programme for the Congress workers on flagship programmes taken up in the state under sponsorship of the Central government, the CM said that around 15 flagship programmes formulated by the Congress led UPA government at the Centre are being implemented in the state.

Some of the programmes are technology mission for horticulture development, PMGSY, MGNREGS, NRHM, AAY, Mid-day-meal, Rajiv Gandhi Drinking Water Supply Programme, Total Sanitation Campaign, RGGVY, ACDS, National Irrigation Benefits Programme, etc are meant for the development of the rural areas, he said stressing the need for monitoring these programmes.

Centre is spending rupees in terms of crore in these flagship programmes, Ibobi asserted saying Congress workers should monitor the mode of implementation of these programmes, whether the implementing authorities are translating the works with quality control or selecting the beneficiaries in fair manners in the interest of the state.

The CM said that his government is trying to provide free and compulsory education to the children of poor families who could not sent their wards to school under the Right to Education Act.

With this objective, government has decided to upgrade 46 junior high schools to high school level in hill district, to appoint 500 teachers and to provide computer facilities and free text books.

Government has also issued advertisement for appointment of a total of 1800 teachers, 1300 under SSA (Sarva Siksha Abhiyan) and 500 under RMSA schemes.

No written test will be held at the time of appointment of these teachers.

They would be appointed on the basis of the marks they secured from matriculation to Master Degree exams, the CM added.

Under the RGGVY programme, the state is targeting to electrify all the villages across the sate by the current year.

The ground work had already in Tamenglong district, he said.

In the programme, organized by the MPCC with the advice of the AICC, Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing, MP from Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Thangso Baite, Speaker I Hemochandra, Health minister L Jayentakumar, PHED and IPR minister TN Haokip, MLAs, T Mangibabu, M Prithivraj, etc.

Health minister Jayentakumar stressed the need of spreading awareness on the flagship programmes to the people.

The programmes like SSA, RMSA are taken up for the upliftment of the society by giving good education to the children.

Minister, TN Haokip, speaking on the occasion, expressed concerned over the uncontrolled deforestation in the state and said that despite having taken up various water supply schemes for supplying safe drinking water, most of schemes are in a position to fail for want of water sources.

If there no source for water, what is the use of water supply scheme, this should be aware to the people first, he said urging the Congress workers to take up works to aware the people on the difficulties ahead of mass deforestation.

He also stressed the need for taking up rain water harvesting scheme in the state.

The programme will be held at district as well as party's block level too, said the organizers.
