Imphal, January 22 2010: A housewife was found hanged to death in a suspicious manner at the verandah of her house at Ghari Awang Leikai under Lamphel police station this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Phamdon Ningol Sadokpam Ongbi Sangeeta (34), wife of Sadokpam Romabanta alias Inaoba (35) of Ghari Awang Leikai.

S Romabanta is a rifleman of the 5th India Reserve Battalion.

Sangeeta is survived by her husband, two (12 year old and 7 year old) daughters, and a month and half old son.

According to locals, the dead body of Sangeeta was found early this morning.

On receiving information, a team of Lamphel police led by the OC picked up the dead body.

Locals said, Romabanta is known for his misbehavior with his wife and children in the family.

The couple are said to be getting ART treatment.

Romabanta has also married one Anjali of North AOC recently as his second wife.

He sometimes took his second wife to his house and lived together.

The first wife, Sangeeta, went to her paternal home.

Sangeeta returned to her husband again after he assured her that he had broken his relation with Anjali.

It has been upto the knowledge of the locals that Romabanta is assaulting his wife frequently.

The source said that Rombanta had taken his second wife, Anjali to his house around four days back.

As the news of Sangeeta being hanged spread this morning, both Romabanta and his second wife Anjali disappeared instantly.

When the OC of Lamphel police station asked the eldest daughter of Sangeeta whether she had known the death of her mother, she denies knowing about the death of her mother.

She said that when she called her mother this morning for assistance in dropping her to the latrine, her father told her not to call her mother.

The father also restricted his daughter not to venture outside the house.

He told his daughter to defecate inside the house let her do the same.

The neighbours of Sangeeta lodged a complaint with the Lamphel police alleging that Sangeeta was not committing suicide but killed by her husband.

Later, police apprehended Rombanta the 5th IRB post at Luwangsangbam.

A public meeting was held in connection with the death today at Ghari Awang Community Hall.

Five resolutions were adopted at the meeting.

The resolutions included that Sangeeta was killed by her husband and later she was hanged.

The meeting also concurred that Sangeeta was killed by her husband in collusion with his second wife, Anjali.

The meeting also decided that the family members and the culprit involved in the killing leave the locality and termination of Romabanta from his service.

It also decided to forfeit the properties of Romabanta to his children and not to claim the dead body until the killers are nabbed.
