Imphal, June 20 2009:
Finally, the much-awaited Khuga Multipurpose Project, which has reached its last stage of completion, begun to serve its purposes.
As such, farmers in the down line area need not worry due to scarcity of rain water.
IFCD Minister N Biren has today inspected the functioning of the Khuga project including the left and right canals of the project which begun supplying water to the down line areas.

Talking to reporters who accompanied him during the inspection tour, N Biren said the left canal of the project has begun passage of water since the first week of May this year while water began flowing through the right main canal from Monday last.
He said the left canal has provided irrigation water to around 200 hectares of cultivable land within two kilometres from the project.
At the same time, the right main canal has provided water at the stretch of 22 kilometres.
He said, as a whole, the project has provided water to around 900 hectares of cultivable land in the downstream area.
The Minister said that the Khuga Multipurpose project, which has been started since thirty years back, is projected to supply water to around 15,000 hectares of agriculture land.
The Minister's team, separated in two, has inspected both the left and right canal of the project.
The Minister, who led in inspecting the main right canal, has also inspected the stretch of the canal.
Biren further said that the area in the downstream will be provided water regularly when the construction of the canal is completed.
He also expressed satisfaction that the project has served the purpose of irrigation at this time of the year when the state is hit with a drought-like situation.
