Imphal, November 11 2008:
WITH AN objective of ushering quality education in the state and also to enhance the performance level of the students, the Common Examination conducted under the guidance of the All Manipur Recognised Private Schools' Welfare Association, which started from 2006, would be conducted for the current academic session as well, Advisor of the Association, N Tomba and other office-bearers announced today.
The teacher-leaders told newsmen during a press meet at the Manipur Press Club that in 2006, the Common Examination was conducted only for Class X students.
Then last year, in 2007, Class VIII was added, and for the current academic year, Class V has also been added.
The examination for Class X would be held from November 20 upto December 2 while examinations for Class VIII and V would commence from November 26 upto December 2 and 1 respectively.
The teachers made an earnest appeal to the people not to organise any bandh or blockade during the examinations by any group of people.
The teachers said, the common examination of Class X is targeted at enabling the various schools to complete the syllabus early and also to enable the students to join extra coaching classes before the Board examination so that pass percentage would become higher.
The common examination of Class V is targeted at equal adoption of common text books in the different schools and also to complete all syllabus simultaneously.
Moreover, it aims at doing away with the system of providing the students with important suggestions likely to be asked in the examination and also to prevent some teachers from taking personal advantage by conducting private tuitions at home.
Another objective is to enable the students of class V, after passing the examination, to get opportunity to get admission in class VI either at the Navodaya Vidyalayas or at the Sainik School or in other states outside Manipur, the teachers said.
They also further elaborated that since a class VIII-passed candidate has the eligibility to get a job in the state government, the common examination was being conducted.
In order to enable the students studying in government schools also to appear in the examinations, efforts are being made to print the questions both in Manipuri (Bangla script) and English, the teachers said.
About 200 schools including some new aided schools will take part in the examinations.
In class V examination, 6600 students, in class VIII, 6400 and in class X examination, 5,500 students will appear.
The All Manipur Private Schools' Welfare Association appealed to all the school authorities to extend the utmost co-operation in making the examination free and fair.
The Association declared the second half of November and the first half of December as the "Examination Month." Those whoever want to get more information may make contact through the mobile phone nos.9862169961, 9856433380 and 9862112001 .
