Imphal, December 29 2008: A SEVEN-DAY residential drawing camp commenced from December 23 organised jointly by the Brain Drain Exposia, Hueiyen Lanpao group of publications and Mamikon Academy has concluded today at the Institute of Rural Education, Wangjing with a function.

Publisher of this newspaper, Maibam Dorel was the chief guest.

Well known artist Laishram Phulendro and film maker Ningthouja Lancha attended as guests of honour at the closing function presided over by N Ibotombi, retired principal, YK College, Wangjing.

Maibam Dorel said that in the past, people of the state used to have eagerness of seeing and looking at the beautiful things but it seems to have been waned in the last few years.

Holding of such drawing camp at least once a year would help in saving the diminishing interest of the people of the state.

Teaching of the children to able to expose and culture their talents of being an artist during such camp is also a must, he said, while expressing various benefits that can be obtained by the children participating in the camp.

Coming to the present situation in the state of Manipur, he said, children must be kept away from hearing tragic news occurring everyday.

Speaking as guest of honour, Phulendro said that the artists have a great role in making a child perfect.

With the proper guidance, a youngster of Manipur was able to get the seventh position in the world drawing competition.

It is a matter of pride for the state, he said.

Among the works which men's thoughts can be converted into action, artist is also one, he said adding that imparting training in children in this field will give great benefits to them.

When a child is asked for drawing or making something, he or she will draw or make scenery of hills and land.

This indicates the relationship between nature and men, he said.

Ningthouja Lancha said that only those people who invest extra labour in the field would be able to earn fame in the world.

To produce famous people, children should be taught to culture their inborn talents.

He also talked about various benefits that could be provided by holding such drawing camps.

The concluding function of the residential camp was marked by display of statues and paintings which the participants made or drew during the seven days camp.

Prizes to the position holders in the two category competitions were also distributed during the function.

In the 9 to 11 years category, Oinam Indrakumar, son of Memcha of Thoubal Awang Leikai got the first position.

The second prize went to RK Atush, son of Joykumar of Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai and the third position went to T Atathoi, son of Chandrakumar of Keishamthong Moirang Ningthou.

Khwairakpam Kapil, son of Joykumar of Phubala won the first position in the 12 to 14 years category competition, the second and third positions went to Ninthoujam Ronaldo, son of Suresh of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai and W Ingalemba, son of Deben of Phubala respectively.

The first position holders got Rs 1000 each with certificate, the second and the third position holders were given Rs 800 and Rs 600 respectively.

All the participants were also given certificates for participation.
