Imphal, December 24 2009: The state Cabinet today has approved recruitment of 1500 more Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel, merger of JN Hospital with JN Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) and extension of reservation policy in appointment of jobs and others for another 10 years among others.

The cabinet meeting held at 3 pm today at the conference hall of the Chief Minister's secretariat was presided over by the Chief Minister, O Ibobi.

The Cabinet meeting discussed nine agenda and approved them, a senior Cabinet Minister said.

After a thorough discussion, the Cabinet approved of merger of the JN Hospital with JNIMS.

The meeting decided to hand over the task of translating the merger into reality to the Core Committee on the matter to prepare a detailed report and submit the same at the earliest.

Once merged, the doctors and employees of the state Health Department will get all the benefits given to the employees of JNIMS, the Minister informed.

The Cabinet also discussed the proposal of extension of reservation system for the Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes for another 10 years in the state.

A bill regarding the amendment of the related Act will be tabled during the upcoming Assembly session.

A proposal of the state Home Department to pay compensation to the family of the victim AS Ringfang (37) of Mairiyong Khul under Phungyar police station of Ukhrul.

He was abducted by some suspected underground cadres in November 28 and later found murdered on December 19 last.

Cabinet approved to the payment of Rs 5 lakh under the victims of terrorists violence incident.

Another 1500 VDF personnel will be recruited in addition to the earlier strength of VDF.

With the Cabinet approval, the total strength of VDF in the state will be 10,000.Among the 1500 VDF personnel to be recruited, 300 will be increased for each district.

The Cabinet also approved of setting up a night shelter home for the working women in Imphal which would be run by the Labour Department at an estimated cost of Rs 60 lakh.

The home will be constructed at Khuman Lampak.

To revive post of six posts of project officers in Adult education department and appointment of Th Pradipkumar on contract basis at Rs 4000 per months as physical education teacher also approved by the cabinet, the senior cabinet minister disclosed.
