Imphal, November 23 2010: While setting Wednesday (November 24) deadline to review government decision of keeping cadres of KCP (Lallumba) group at 8th Manipur Rifles complex, Leikul in Chandel district, the JAC Against Sheltering of KCP(L) today threatened to call a 24-hour Chandel bandh effective from 6 am of next day (November 25) .

In a briefing to media persons at Komlathabi Housing Complex, convener St Nunghlung recalled that the JAC has been protesting against the keeping of cadres of KCP(L) who surrendered en-mass to the government under a tripartite agreement based on a reliable information that they are shifting to 8th MR complex at Leikul on November 13 .

Since the day people of area are keeping a vigilant to the police and security force vehicles coming to Chandel from Imphal side to see whether cadres of KCP (L) are escorting to the designated camp constructed for the purpose, he said.

Citing that in Assam Bodo militants are keeping in the designated camps at areas settle by the Bodos, likewise KCP (L), the valley based militants, can be keep at a place in valley area.

Hill based militants can be kept at hill areas.

If do like this there will be no disturbances, he said.

People of Chandel are strongly against selecting the site for keeping the militants in Chandel area instead of choosing other places.

They will also give objections if government tried to keep them in any other places in Senapati, Tamenglong, etc.

By giving objection to the keeping of the militants at Leikul, it did not meant that they will kill the villagers but they feared of disturbing peace and tranquility of the area, he went on to say expressing dissatisfaction over the government adamant attitudes despite strong resistances from the people.

Spokesperson of the JAC, K Sakhila expressed strong condemnation when government remains in mute even though womenfolk of the area are agitating against the government move to keep the militants at Leikul.

President of All Tribal Women's Organisation (ATWO), Lallam Mate demanded that government should review the decision of keeping the KCP (L) cadres at Leikul hearing the hue and cry of the people.

If government failed to hear the cry of the people, ATWO will back the JAC in launching any kinds of agitation.

Meanwhile, Kuki Students Organisation, Chandel district, Kuki Women Human Rights and Thadou Students' Union, in a statement, today warned that if state government fail to review the government decision to keep KCP(L) cadres at Leikul, they will be compelled to launch intensified forms of agitations.

Any untoward incidents arising out of the agitation will be the sole responsibility of the government, the statement added.
