A rally in protest against human trafficking and violence against women and children was marched on the street at Moirang in Bishnupur district today.
Around 1000 people participated in the rally.
At a meeting held at INA Memorial Complex at the concluding part of the rally resolved to press the state authority to speed up investigation processes in the rape and murder cases registered with the police stations and award befitting punishments including that of recent rape and murder of Angom Chanbi and her teenage daughter Meneka of Phayeng in Imphal west.
The meeting also demanded government to take up steps to rehabilitate those children, victims of trafficking and brought to Imphal recently apart from taking initiatives to rescued other children trafficked outside the state.
Talkers in the meeting also demanded state authority to take up immediate steps to find the culprits behind the trafficking of state children outside the state and award befitting punishment so as not to check further trafficking of children.
It also resolved to submit memoranda to the President of India, Prime Minister, Home Minister urging them to instruct the state government to do the needful to check increasing crime against women and children.
Among the resource persons who talked in the meeting include retired teacher Tongbram Bijoy, district social welfare officer, L Ibomcha, councilor of Moirang Municipal Council, Ph Bheigyachandra, secretary of CSD, Imphal, U Nobokishore and secretary WAD, Sobita Mangsatabam.
Speaking at the meeting U Nobokishore expressed wondered on the increasing incidents of crime against women and trafficking of children of the state where more than 1 lakh security force of both state and central security establishments are guarding and outnumber underground outfits who are said to be waging war for the people's are operating.
The mass protest rally cum public meeting was organised by the New Life Foundation, Thamnapokpi, Moirang Women Group against Discrimination, Moirang, Social Action Platform, Bishnupur, United Community Development Platform, Moirang, NEWS Kumbi, Child Welfare Committee, Bishnupur and other NGOs, CBOs and POs together to register a strong protest against recent unabated spate of rape and murder and child trafficking in the state.
The rally started from Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Moirang and after covering Moirang Bazar and concluded at INA complex where the public meeting was followed by.
