Local artists performing classical Manipuri dance outside the state and abroad should be very careful about their costume and performance since it is considered to be one of the highest form of classical dance not only in India but internationally as well, said P.Bharat Singh, IAS, commissioner of art and culture, government of Manipur.
He was speaking on Monday at the inaugural function of the "Festival of Manipuri Classical Solo Dance 2009" to be held from October 12-14 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Auditorium, Imphal.
He said that Manipuri classical dance has been revived during the last two years.
He also said that a new building for library is coming up for the Manipur State Kala Akademi, which is organizing the three day dance festival.
Padmashri S Thanil Singh said that the classical dances composed by our former teachers have to develop and conform according to the changing trend at the national level.
He also exhorted the solo dance artists to work hard and perform well to bring name and fame to the state and asked the organizers to arrange such types of dance festivals every year.
