NIC observes Safer Internet Day 2026 across Manipur

The National Informatics Centre (NIC) on Tuesday observed Safer Internet Day 2026 across Manipur with a series of awareness programmes aimed at promoting safe, responsible and informed use of the internet, especially among students and young users.
BISHNUPUR
In Bishnupur, the programme was organised under the overall supervision of the District Administration at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Bishnupur.
Speaking on the occasion, District Informatics Officer (DIO), Bishnupur, RK Romita highlighted the role of NIC in strengthening e-Govemance initiatives and emphasised the importance of observing Safer Internet Day, which is marked globally on the second Tuesday of February every year.
She informed that the theme for this year is "Smart Tech, Safe Choices: Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)" .
Addressing the gathering, Assistant Commissioner to the Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur, Sh Gunamani stated that the objective of observing Safer Internet Day is to sensitise people about safer internet practices, digital awareness, and responsible use of online platforms.
He further remarked that in the present digital era, where internet usage has become an integral part of daily life, such awareness programmes are particularly relevant for students and young users.
During the programme, Kh Kishore, DIO Churachandpur delivered a PowerPoint presentation elaborating on internet safety, cyber awareness, and responsible use of emerging technologies.
The programme was also attended by N Premila, Principal, JNV Bishnupur, along with teachers and students.
TENGNOUPAL
In Tengnoupal, Safer Internet Day 2026, was observed at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Langol Khullen, Machi Block, organised by the District Administration in collaboration with NIC .
A total of 182 participants, including 144 girl students, 7 women, and over 30 officials from various departments attended the event.
Senior district officers, including SDOs of Tengnoupal and Machi and SDCs from Tengnoupal and Moreh, also took part, highlighting the administration's commitment to digital safety and AI literacy.
Thokchom Dayananda Singh, District Informatics Officer, NIC Tengnoupal, delivered an impactful audio-visual presentation on emerging cyber threats such as deepfakes, phishing, digital arrest frauds and the expanding influence of AI .
SDO Tengnoupal & Machi, Md Nazmul Huda Khan, highlighted the rising risks of online financial frauds and urged students to use only verified links and report cyber incidents promptly.
He also expressed concern over increasing cybercrime related suicides, advising students to seek timely help.
Students participated in a cyber-safety quiz and shared personal accounts of online fraud and cybercrimes.
They were also introduced to the national cybercrime helpline 1930 to encourage timely reporting.
UKHRUL
NIC Ukhrul also organised Safer Internet Day 2026 at Ukhrul Higher Secondary School (UHSS), under the theme "Smart Tech, Safe Choices: Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI" .
Scientist-C and DIO, NIC Ukhrul, K Modar Maring, in his address, stressed the need for youths and students to be aware of cybercrimes and to practice cyber hygiene to safeguard critical digital assets.
He also educated the students on the wise and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence.
As a resource person, Modar Maring covered topics including the internet and its role in day-to-day life, safe use of the internet, responsible use of AI, common cyber threats of AI, cyber hygiene practices and mechanism for reporting cybercrimes.
The programme was also attended by Josiah AS, principal UHSS, along with teaching and non-teaching staff and around 200 students.
Safer Internet Day, 2026, was also observed at Chandel, on the theme "Smart Tech, Safe Choices : Exploring the Safe and Internet Use of AI" .
CHANDEL
Chandel district also marked Safer Internet Day 2026 at the DC Conference Hall.
SDO Khengjoy, Gyasuddin Khan, speaking at the opening session, described the internet as a "necessary evil" in the modern tech-driven world and stressed the need for individuals to exercise caution while navigating online information.
DIO Chandel, Ngamba Thokchom, presented a comprehensive session on safe internet practices.
The programme was attended by District Level Officers and staff of the district administration.
THOUBAL
In Thoubal, NIC in collaboration with Waikhom Mani Girls' College observed the day at the college's seminar hall.
Resource persons highlighted safe online behaviour, major cyber threats, cyber hygiene and responsible use of AI, followed by an interactive session with students.
The program was attended by college principal, H Manoranjan along with staff and students.
