Imphal, August 09 2010: Chairman of Hill Areas Committee (HAC) Thangminlien Kipgen has assured that the grievances of the people living in remote hill areas of the State would be taken care of since the duly elected Autonomous District Councils have been formed in the hill districts.

He was speaking at a reception function hosted in honour of Roingam Thanga, who was elected to Sadar Hills District Council from 15-Bungte Chiru Constituency in the recently held 4th Autonomous District Council elections at Bungte Chiru community hall today.

Speaking at the occasion attended by leaders of over 20 villages under Bungte Chiru Constituency as well as leaders of various communities, Thangminlien pointed out that it has been difficult for an MLA, specially in the hill areas to look after the developmental requirements of his entire constituency including the remote and far flung areas.

However, this developmental gap would be taken care of since the Autonomous District Councils have been set up.

He explained that after many years, elections to the Autonomous District Councils were held in consultation with HAC and with the approval of many students' unions and civil societies.

The election has been held not against any organisation or group.

Informing the gathering that it is his first visit to Bungte Chiru, Thangminlien acknowledged the need for paying little more attention to the development of Bungte Constituency.

Stressing on the need for sincerity among the tribals , Thangminlien observed that there can be no development where there is sincerity.

Nonetheless, he added that, existence of a large community hall in Bungte Chiru village has shown that there is unity among the people.

He also announced a donation of Rs 2 lakhs from his fund towards repairing of the community hall.

In his address, chairman of newly constituted Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council Sh Seipu informed that gathering that pressure is being given for giving more power to the Autonomous District Councils.

He also assured that every possible efforts would be made to fill up the existing developmental gaps in various villages in consultation with other Council members.

Council member Roingam Thanga expressed gratitude to the villagers saying that it is because of their love and support that he has been elected as a member to the Council.

He also pledged to work for the development of his Constituency without any biasness.
