Imphal, December 08 2010: Miscreants on Tuesday evening assaulted two AR personnel leaving one dead and another injured at Khonghampat, under Sekmai Police station.

Rifleman Ramana of 5 AR and rifleman Mahesh who was assaulted by unknown miscreants were rushed to RIMS hospital.

Ramana succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

The two AR personnel along with a friend called Prem from Airport Road were travelling in a passenger bus from Senapati to Imphal.

The bus stopped to refuel at a street side some 50 meters away from the highway at Santi Panchayat Leikai, Khonghampat around 6.30 pm yesterday.

Suddenly some unknown persons climbed into the bus and forced out the two AR personnel and Prem.

They left aside Prem, and started to attack the two AR personnel.

When the unknown persons started to attack them, they began to run.

The bus drove away on hearing gunshots.

Local people found the two wounded and running desperately for their lives and rushed them to RIMS hospital in a passenger jeep.

Mahesh was injured on his right hand and thumb.

Ramana got injured on his back and head.

Two bullets had also passed through his back.

Ramana succumbed to his injuries at 3 am today.

Mahesh was discharged today around 9 am.

The two were planning to spend a night in Imphal before going back to their homes today by flight.

The dead body is lying in the RIMS mortuary after post mortem.

It will be flown away to his home tomorrow.
