Imphal, April 01 2009: A minister of the Government of Nagaland joined the launching of election campaign for the candidate of People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, Mani Charenamei today with a public meeting held at the Mini Stadium Complex Senapati district headquarter.

Addressing the public meeting, the sitting MP, Mani Charenamei welcomed the Minister, MLAs, other eminent leaders and sympathisers who came from Nagaland to join the meeting organised to launch his election campaign and expressed happiness over their presence.

It was an effort to build a united Naga community and push the Nagas towards development, he said.

He said, the Naga people want peace, hence their support to the peace process.

Killings and bloodsheds had stopped since the peace process was initiated.

Now there is Suspension of Opereation (SoO) between the Kuki armed groups and security forces.

Because of this peace has begun to prevail amongst them.

Like the Naga peace talk and Kuki groups' SoO, it's time peace initiative was made for the valley groups too, Mani Charenamei opined.

Recognising the significance of the regional party, Mani Charenamei said that a big movement of the regional parties has come about in India.

In the national parties, there is a question of waiting for an appointment to meet with the high command.

But in a regional party, there is no such thing.

One can speak as he wishes in the parliament.

He further said that the PDA is the regional party for the hills of Manipur while the MPP is the regional party in the valley.

As such it is time to sit together to talk about the solutions to the problems of the family.

Finance Minister of Government of Nagaland, TR Gelleng, who attended the meeting, appreciated the fact that "we live in a secular country".

Compare to India, Manipur and Nagaland are very small, populations are also very small.

It is because of the different outlook and cultures that India recognises the region.

Therefore, the people of the North East should preserve and promote their indigenous cultures, Gelleng said.

He said Mani Charenamei is the only MP who can speak on Naga issues in the Parliament.

Regional parties will come to power in India and Mani Charenamei will even get a Cabinet post.

President of Naga Students' Federation Achom said that the people of the North East are one.

All issues must be faced unitedly.

The Naga issue is 62 year-old which is not easy, Achom said and exhorted the people to elect Mani Charenamei once again.

Advisor to the Nagaland Chief Minister, Z Loho, who also spoke at the meeting, opined that since there are difficulties in integrating all Naga inhabited areas, it is necessary to keep a good relationship among the Naga inhabited areas.

MLA of Nagland Assembly, Viko Yashi, Manipur MLAs, Morung Makunga and Khashim Ruivah and other political leaders from Nagaland also addressed the gathering.
