Sit-in-protests urge for sanity

Imphal, August 30: In protest against demanding Rs 3 lakhs by armed outfit KCP from a local percussionist of Pung, Leimarol Leishem Yaipha Thouram Kanna Lup organised a Wakat Meepham at its Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi Kuthabi shed today.

Around 100 people participated in the protest demonstration decrying the demand note of Rs 3 lakh served to Thongram Sanatomba (43) s/o late Ibochou of Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi Leikai, a Pung percussionist, by the armed outfit.

The demand letter was reportedly issued by one Wanglen Khuman, who identified himself as the fund-raiser in-charge of KCP Central Zone, though no signature had been appended.

Following the demand letter, the family members of Sanatomba have been living in dread.

During the protest demonstration, placards inscribed with slogans like 'Withdraw monetary demand served on Pung Yeiba Oja Sanatomba', 'Stop terrorising the people for money', 'Don't make unreasonable demand', etc were displayed.

Samram dares KCP: Coming out strongly against the diktat by Ibungo Ngangom of KCP through media on August 25 directing eight persons of Samram Laibung Leikai to leave Manipur within September 5, a public meeting held at Samram Bamon Leikai Keithel today resolved to accept the offer of SPOs like that of Heirok as last resort if the outfit does not withdraw its diktat.

Along with constituting a Joint Action Committee (JAC) with N Hemanta as president, T Somen as secretary and A Bobo as publicity secretary, the meeting decided that on behalf of the people the JAC would first urge the armed outfit to retract its stand and in case of non-compliance to the aspiration and voice of thepeople, then the people would be constrained to take recourse to various intense agitations and accept the offer of SPOs like that of Heirok as last resort.

The meeting has also decided to impose restriction on entry of outsiders in Samram area after 6 pm every day with immediate effect from today.

In case of necessity, entry would be allowed only after communicating with the Ward members and in the event of occurrence any wanted incidents, the family members concerned would be held responsible.

In protest against the diktat of the outfit, a Wakat Meepham was also staged by the local people at Samram Lamkhai today.
