Parliamentarians from the North Eastern states, including Sikkim are scheduled to meet here to deliberate on the socio-economic development in this insurgency plagued region.
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will inaugurate the two-day North Eastern Region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (NERCPA) conference, staring from January 29 at the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly here.
Assembly Speakers, including parliamentary secretaries from all the North Eastern States, including Sikkim and West Bengal are expected to attend the meet.
The Chairman of Rajya Sabha and other officials are also expected to attend the conference as observers.
The Manipur Assembly committee is expected to present a paper on the ground situation of the state relating to the impact of insurgency on the Socio-economic development.
Meanwhile, a four-member delegation of the Manipur Legislative Assembly has left Imphal for Shillong today to attend the North-East Commonwealth Parliamentary Assembly to discuss the impact of insurgency on the social and economic development in the region.
The four members include Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Dr Sapam Budhichandra, leader of opposition, Radhabinod Koijam, MLA O Joy, and MLA M Hemanta.
The team is said to present the recommendations and reports of the state Assembly.
All assembly committees of the North-East are said to participate in the assembly.
The assembly will be attended by Speaker of Lok Sabha, Meira Kumar and General Secretary of North-East Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, PDT Acharya.
