Empowered with the enactment of Manipur Govt Public Employees Liability Act 2006 on April 17, process has begun to de-list 314 contract/casual Grade-IV employees of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).
with the Chief secretary having circulated an order to this effect to Heads of Department concerned, informed source said that respective Govt establishments have activated necessary exercise to sort out employees enrolled after the cut-off date of December 1995.Casual or contract employees recruited before the said deadline have been regularised in consonance with a Government decision, reminded the source.
Stating that the employees' disengagement processes had detected 314 PHED employees appointed in violation of the standing order, the source also confided of a Government policy to clear pending wages calculated upto March 2005 for these employees for which Rs 2 crore had already been sanctioned.
This sanctioned amount do not include wages for a year, clarified the source while pointing out many of the employees likely to be disengaged are engaged as engine operators, chowkidars, technical jugali and linesmen concentrated in imphal, thoubal and Bishnupur districts.
such large-scale exercise might have adverse effect on the supply of drinking water for a while, opined the source who also highlighted audible disillusions among the employees.
