Conceived to ease traffic congestion in the capital city, expand connectivity as well as present a semblance of stream-lining public transport system the Radial City Bus Service from Lilong till Sekmai bazar has been formally flagged-off from Lilong Haoreibi College Gate this morning.
The said stretch is named Route No D and from flag-off site will pass through NH-39 touching among others Canchipur, Moirangkhom, Kangla Pat Road, north AOC, Mantripukhri, Khonghampat till Sekmai and back on the same route.
Similar public transport routes would also connect various other important towns located on the periphery of Imphal districts by criss-crossing numerous places within the capital city and back to the starting point.
As per a notification (June 12) issued by the State's Transport Department, vehicles of varying sizes currently engaged in ferrying commuters would be utilised on rotational basis and had set June 19 as tentative deadline to start the path-breaking transport system.
After some of the routes began operation the Route No-D service was flagged off by Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) advisor Ph Nando while a bus from Sekmai side is informed to have been simultaneously flagged-off by Sekmai AC MLA N Biren.
Vehicles heading to Sekmai from Lilong would be categorised as D-II whereas from Sekmai to Lilong the public carrier would be D-I.Under the new transport arrangement buses operating from Lamshang Bazar upto Irilbung under Route No 'A' would touch Uripok Canteen Road, RIMS Crossing, Nagamapal, North AOC, Wangkhei, Kongba Bazar and Bamon Kampu.
Regarding Route No 'B' the starting point and destination would be from Wangoi Bazar till Lamlai via Samurou, Mongshangei and Nambul Mapal with Keishampat as the diversion point towards the Kangla Pat Road (NH-39) and head for Lamlai through North Minuthong, Lamlong Bazar and Sawombung.
Route No 'C' linking Nambol with Top Khongnangkhong in Imphal east district will criss-cross Kwakeithel, Wahengbam, Khoyathong road, Sanjenthong, Porompat (Imphal East DC road).
The Nambol-Top Khongnangkhong route was officially launched since yesterday, informed source said.
Establishing connectivity between Keithelmanbi (NH-53) and Pangei Route No 'E' vehicles would travel along Khumbong, Yurembam, Langjing, Tera Bazar, Wahengbam Leikai, Keishampat, Kanglapat Road, north AOC, Lamlong before heading towards Khurai Heigrumakhong till its final destination before heading back on the same route.
