Imphal, Jun 22:
After the first political convention of MPP, DRPP and FPM at GM hall on May 7 resolved to combine the three parties into a single regional party, the unification process has stumbled as many MLAs are against the conduct and principles of their leaders.
The issue is further compounded by the internal wranglings within the MPP.
On the other hand, some FPM MLAs who had decided to stay away from the combined party maintained that the unification of regional parties in Manipur is a far fetched dream.
They disclosed that the conduct and functioning of party leaders of two constituent parties remain far from desirable and are unconvincing.
They noted that the perception of FPM president towards the internal crisis of MPP seemed to be a conspiracy and as such the unification of the three parties would remain a herculean task even if it is possible.
FPM president Dr L Chandramani admitted that it would be a deterrent to the unification process if the internal crisis of MPP persists.
Even then, he added that serious efforts are being made to implement the resolution of the three regional parties adopted during their first political convention to unite together.
He also conveyed fear that the political convention and its resolutions would prove to be a futile exercise if the unification of the parties could not be effected within 1 or 2 months in view of assembly elections slated in the beginning of next year.
The task of unification has fallen into a deep trouble after a petition was submitted to the Election Commission on May 19 to remove Borajao from the post of MPP president who was earlier recognised by the Election Commission of India as MPP president.
The petition was filed by MLA O Joy and Ch Iboyaima.
It is reported that the Borajao group is seeking advice of legal experts to submit a response to the EC in connection with the petition filed by O Joy.
Borajao maintained that he has nothing against the unification of regional parties but would not accept anything that might compromise the position and identity of MPP.
He further conveyed that all parties desirous of unification are welcome to come to MPP.
He also questioned the logic behind the proposal of unification made to expelled party members rather than to the party president recognised by the Election Commission of India.
