Imphal, May 22:
Along with formation of a Panchayat Delimitation Commission, modification would be made on the size of the Gram Panchayats in the four valley districts with effect from September this year, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Md Allauddin Khan informed the Assembly today.
Giving his response to a question raised by Opposition MLA Dr I Ibohalbi during the discussion to pass the Manipur Appropriation (No.IV) Bill, 2007, the Minister said that Gram Panchayats having 3000 to 6000 electors would not be affected by the proposed delimitation process.
Only those which have more than 6000 electors would be affected, he said, while informing the House that a meeting has been convened from 11 am to 4 pm tomorrow to discuss the matter.
MLA Ibohalbi observed that if the delimitation is to be effected at all, then care should be taken not to disturb the existing boundary of the villages apart from looking into the possibility of increasing the number of Gram Panchayats.
During the course of the discussion of the Bill, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh informed that the DGP has been instructed to send the SP Chandel to personally go and verify the report of installation of the image of Goddess Durga inside the temple of Emoinu at Kwakta.
When Opposition MLA O Joy insisted that the said report was baseless, Speaker suggested the House to wait for the report of the SP after which a joint meeting of all the members may be convened at his office chamber to study the report.
Afterward, the House unanimously passed the Manipur Appropriation (No.IV) Bill, 2007.
