Imphal, April 22 2010: State government has imposed temporary embargo on registration of buying and selling of lands and standing properties within the areas under Imphal Municipality as the State Cabinet today decided to examine the records of selling and buying of lands and immovable properties during the last 10 years.

The embargo on the buying and selling of lands and immovable properties within the Imphal Municipal area was apparently in the backdrop of the ultimatum served by an underground group to the Non-Manipuris to leave the state within May 31 next.

The Government has the report that some vested interested individuals are intimidating the non-locals particularly residing in the Imphal areas to sell out lands and immovable properties belonging to them.

These invested interest individuals are buying the properties at rate half the actual prices of the lands and properties, the source maintained.

Earlier, a Cabinet meeting convened by Chief Minister, O Ibobi today has decided to enquire into the buying and selling of lands and immovable properties in the Imphal Municipality area particularly at Paona and Thangal Bazar during the period from 2000 till date with an objective to know the persons who amassed wealth, said Chief Minister, O Ibobi during the press briefing after the Cabinet meeting today.

The Cabinet resolved to inquire into the matter based on the report that some vested interested individuals intimidating the non-locals to sell out their properties at reduction rate.

Cabinet has decided to inquire into the matter so as to identify those persons who buy the lands and properties as government has the knowledge of involvement of some underground elements in the trade, the Chief Minister said.

Even ministers and MLAs and bureaucrat officers will not be spared if they are found buying the properties and inquiry will be made at what rate they had bought the properties, whether the price was suited with the value or whether their incomes could afford the money for amassing the wealth, he added.

In reply to a question related with the counter ultimatum served by the Moist with regard to the quit notice to the Non-Manipuris, Chief Minister, O Ibobi said when lives of the Manipuris staying in other states of the country, the state government could do nothing.

But government is ready to write letters to the respective governments for safeguarding the lives of Mainpuris.

On the other hand, among the Non-Manipuris residing in the state, many of them have been settling more than a century.

They can be treated as Manipuris, Ibobi observed.

He further said Non-Manipuris are also the citizens of the country.

Like Manipuris can live in other parts of the country, they have the right to stay in the state too.

Any act of ousting them out from the state by intimidation will not be fruitful even though they use their maximum power to drive out them.

The Chief Minister also appealed the Non-Manipuris not to hesitate in leaving the state when anti-national forces threaten them.

Government will give full security, He assured.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet meeting today also approved to the setting of 9th IRB as Women battalion apart from resolving to conduct direct recruitment of sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors and constables for the police department.
