Under instruction from the Election Commission of India (ECI), taking of photographs for voters have also been taken up in the five hill districts of Manipur.
On the other hand, the Naga People's Organisation (NPO) has submitted a representation to the Deputy Commissioner, Senapati district appealing to exclude three sub-divisions of the district from the photo exercise.
A reliable source informed The Sangai Express that taking of photographs of voters for inclusion in the electoral rolls have begun in Senapati, Chandel, Ukhrul, Churachandpur and Tamenglong districts on September 10.At present 100 teams are being engaged to take photographs of electors in the five hill districts even as the NPO has appealed to the Senapati DC to exclude Mao-Maram, Paomata and Purul sub-divisions from the ongoing photo exercise.
So far the people of the three sub-divisions are not very much receptive to the photography teams, informed the source.
Meanwhile Chief Electoral Officer RR Rashmi has reviewed progress of the ongoing photo exercise in the five hill districts together with concerned DCs/DEOs and SDOs/EROs on September 19.The review meeting agreed to complete 80 percent of the ongoing photo exercise by October this year.
It also decided to allot five photography teams in each Assembly segment.
Other points of the meeting include organisation of awareness and interaction programmes under the basic objective to make people aware that photo electoral rolls will be necessary for future Assembly and Parliamentary elections.
To undertake widespread publicity about the photo exercise in collaboration with local churches and village authorities and other available means was another decision of the meeting.
In case voters do not turn up to take their photographs during the first, second and special campaign, their names will be deleted from the electoral rolls in accordance the rules of 1960, added the source.
