Imphal, February 21 2011: Chairman of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) RK Meghen alias Sanayaima has claimed that Government of india's policy constrained the organisation to take up arms in its campaign to restore sovereignty as India did not entertain talks with unarmed group(s) .

Speaking to newspersons after coming out of the Special Court of National Investigation Agency (NIA) at Guwahati today, where he was produced along with five other top members of the outfit, sanayaima reminded that UNLF was formed in 1964 as an unarmed organisation.

However, sustained violent campaign launched by the Indian forces compelled the UNLF to change tract and launch armed movement, he maintained reiterating his contention that Government of India prefers solving any issue through the negotiating table only when armed movement is carried out.

Stating that objective of the UNLF is to resolve all differences in a democratic manner, a principle endorsed by the United nations, the UNLF chief observed that to attain the goal through democratic means participation of the mass is inevitable as the movement in Manipur needs support of the global community.

Asserting that the international community will not remain silent when democratic movements are launched, he also exhorted that no adversary forces will be able to subdue mass movement if the citizens remain united in their struggle.

Sanayaima also strongly advocated unification among the people of the North Eastern region to achievement the goal of economic and political emancipation.

Five other UNLF members namely M Joy, s Rakesh, M Ibohal, M Landhoni Devi and O Maniton were also produced before the Special NIA Court today.

Landhoni Devi's bail plea was rejected by the Court deferring the matter for February 28 .

About 200 supporters/sympathisers of Meghen from Manipur, Assam and Mizoram squatted at before Court gate with placards demanding plebiscite, peaceful solution of the issue and that UNLF is defending rights of Manipur.
