Imphal, March 17: Consequent to the destruction caused to three houses belonging to Yumkhaibam Shyamchandra and his family members by an angry mob over the incident of assaulting one Heikrujam Budhichandra by Shyamchandra and his accomplices, some people who identified themselves as activists of the proscribed KYKL have allegedly threatened those involved in the vandal act.

Addressing a press conference in this connection at BOAT here today, general secretary of All Andro Meira Paibi Association Kh Leirang Tombi Devi informed that the threat was issued over the telephone while they were returning from Yairipok Police Station after handing over Padeswori, wife of Shyamchandra and lodging a complaint in connection with the violent incident yesterday morning.

Speaking on the genesis of the vandalism, Leirang Tombi said after it came to light that Budhichandra was left to die after being brutally assaulted by Shyamchandra, a large number of people including representatives of local club and Meira Paibis had gone to the residence of Shyamchandra to demand an explanation on March 14.But Dhamo father of Shyamchandra rushed out with a sword challenging the people.

Subsequently, the angry people rounded up and brought Padeswori along with them.

On the following day, the mob had also gone to the residence of Shyamchandra asking him to surrender.

But as he had gone hiding, the angry mob destroyed the houses, Leirang Tombi said, adding that none of the family members of the accused Shyamchandra had ever co-operated with the efforts made by people of four different localities to resolve the matter.

Now some unidentified persons have threatened the people by using the name of the proscribed outfit KYKL, she said, while drawing the attention of the authorities concerned to look into this matter.

Meanwhile , reacting to the news report published in some section of the press today in connection with the Andro incident, Chairperson of Andro Nagar Panchayat Leirangton Devi clarified that she had never gone along with the mob to destroy the house of Shyamchandra.

She had only tried to bring about a compromise between the two parties, Leirangton said.
