Imphal, November 15 2008: The Family Court, manipur has today remanded one Khundrakpam Sanahongba Singh of Sagoltongba Makha Leikai to judicial custody for failing to pay monthly maintenance allowance to his wife and children.

According to case dossier, Sanahongba's wife Khundrakpam ongbi Moirangthem ningol Ithoi Devi of Naoremthong Shamushang Uku had in November 2006 filed a case for claiming monthly maintenance allowance from her husband.

Ruling on the case, the Family Court on November 30 the same year directed Sanahongba to pay a monthly maintenance allowance amount of Rs 900 to Ithai and her two minor children.

As Sanahongba failed to honour the directive Ithoi reappraised the same court praying for execution of the November 30, 2006 ruling leading to the Family Court issuing a show cause notice to which the husband did not response.

Taking serious note of the husband's defiance the Court issued warrant of arrest to the Officer in-charge of Patsoi police station who consequently pulled up and produced Sanahongba before the Court today.

The Court remanded Sanahongba to judicial custody till November 29, 2008 for his failure to pay the maintenance allowance to his wife.

The present case was filed at the active initiative of Human Rights Law Network (manipur).
