Imphal, September 15 2011:
Taking due note of the report that prices of essential commodities have sky-rocketed at Imphal and adjoining markets, taking due advantage of the ongoing economic blockades on the National Highways, the State Government has asked the Deputy Commissioners to ensure physical check by District Level Price Monitoring Committees of the prices of essential commodities and available stocks in each and every shop in Imphal as well as district headquarters.
The order issued by the Commissioner, CAF &PD also instructed shopkeepers to display price list as well as available stocks of each item within a week.
The price list shall also be published in leading local news dailies of the State till the blockade is lifted, it said.
Appropriate action should be taken up against those hoarding essential commodities and selling goods at rates higher than the normal/reasonable rates as per provisions of Essential Service Commodities Act and other relevant provisions of law in force, read the Government order.
It further informed that field staff and Executive Magistrates have been deployed to conduct surprise checks against hoarding and selling at higher rates of essential commodities.
