Rev Dr Jeyaseelan, a prominent Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Imphal passed away following a massive heart attack yesterday.
He was 48.Conveying this through a press statement, Vicar General of Archbishop's House, Imphal Fr Linus Neli informed that the incident took place while he was attending the Priestly Ordination ceremony of two Mao priests, Rev Fr Bonio Frederick and Rev Fr Kholi Emmanuel at Makhan Khullen in Senapati district.

While the reception service was in progress, Dr Jeyaseelan groaned and collapsed while he was on the dias with two bishops and his brother priests at 1.15 pm.
A number of medical doctors present there immediately assisted him and then he was rushed to CMC Hospital where he was declared dead.
The funeral service will be held on April 16 at the Catholic Cathedral Church, Mantripukhri at 3 pm and it will be presided by Archbishop Dominic Lumon and Archbishop Joseph Mittathany (Retd).
Dr Jeyaseelan served the Archdiocese in various capacities mainly in the field of education.
He was the vice principal of Catholic School, Canchipur.
He was the vice principal of Catholic School, Canchipur from 1991 to 1996 during which he also worked as the pastor of the Holy Redeemer Parish at Canchipur.
He was appointed as the Chancellor of the Archdiocese from 1998 till his demise.
Born on June 24, 1959 at Madurakkanmoi in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu, Dr Jeyaseelan had his schooling at De Britto High School at Devakotti and opted missionary life in the North east after his matriculate in 1975.He was ordained priest in 1986 at Little Flower School, Imphal.
Dr Jeyaseelan obtained his MA and Ph D in Political Science from Manipur University and M Phil in Christian Studies from Madras University.
He has many articles and books to his credit.
His was a passionate lover of education, peace building and communal harmony.
Meanwhile, describing his death as a great loss, All Manipur Catholic Union (AMCU), North Maring Catholic Women Association (NMCWA) and Maring Catholic Hymnal Translation & Publication Committee (MCHTPC) have condoned the death of Dr Jeyaseelan.
