Messages of greetings from the Governor of Manipur and Generals of Army and Assam Rifles have been conveyed to the people of Manipur on the occasion of the 64th Independence Day, 2010 .
Governor of Manipur, Gurbachan Jagat in his message of greetings to the people of Manipur, said, "The 15th of August reminds us of the pre-independence spirit and patriotism along with the unity and sacrifices made of attainment of our freedom from the British yoke.
It is worthwhile to recall that our freedom was won after supreme sacrifices by innumerable Indians at the altar of the long freedom struggle.
So, while celebrating our independence, we have to introspect on how far we have been able to uphold and promote the spirit of nationhood and its freedom as citizens of an independent country as a mark of showing gratitude to our great freedom fighters and building a great future of our children" .
"On this auspicious occasion, when we pay homage and tributes to the great freedom fighters earnestly, we should renew our pledge to uphold and promote the spirit of nationhood, unity and integrity of the country.
We also should try to create an atmosphere of love and mutual understanding among all sections of the society and take due responsibilities respectively for building our country into a strong and prosperious one," the Governor said in his message.
Lieutenant General NK Singh, AVSM, VSM, GOC 3 Coprs has also greeted the people of Manipur on the 64th Independence Day.
He prayed that the almighty may bless the people with sagacity and courage to facilitate reconciliation and all around development.
Director General Assam Rifles Lieutenant General KS Yadava, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of the Independence Day with prayers of peace, progress and prosperity.
He said that the talented and enlightened people of Manipur will soon achieve-both peace and prosperity.
On the occasion of the 64th Independence Day, GOC, Red Shield Division, Maj Gen DS Hooda, VSM** extended his greetings also prays for the peace and well being of all the people of the state.
"May Almighty bless the people with sagacity and courage to facilitate Manipur ushering into a new era of reconciliation so as to facilitate all round development which the State richly deserves".
Said the General.
Major General C A Krishnan, IGAR(South) and all ranks of Assam Rifles have conveyed their warm greetings and sincere goodwill to all the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion and wished them peace, harmony and prosperity.
