Ukhrul, May 14 2010: The most unwanted Favoritism and nepotism practice at Ukhrul District Hospital has caused untold miseries to children and womenfolk when staffs of the hospital break the first come first serve.

Irrespective of remote areas villagers and town people who came for treatment at Ukhrul District Hospital faced untold hardship at OPD waiting for their turn of treatment.

The irony is that their turns seldom come and random calling, the poor villagers who do not have any form of connection with the attending staff members has to wait till the last hour to get the opportunity even if they come earlier.

As per the spot survey done by Ukhrul District Journalist Association, there were only six chairs for the sick persons to wait their turns at the OPD waiting corridor of Ukhrul District Hospital.

A young woman who came for her daughter's treatment on May 11 last for attending doctor lamented that mode of treatment and serving of needy people and said that the hospital is like a punishment centre.

She said to the visiting member of Ukhrul District Journalists that whenever she came to the hospital she face the hardship of discrimination because she is poor and has no connection with any Doctors or Nurses there.

"Today I admitted my daughter right in front of the attending nurse but her name was never called even after those who came after her were attended," she revealed.

Everyday hundreds of villagers, who cannot afford high fees at private clinics, came to the District Hospital for treatment.

But seemingly even after the rural and poor oriented approach of National Rural Health Mission Ukhrul District Hospital continue to be anti poor and anti rural considering the present functioning of Out Patient Department of Ukhrul District Hospital.

Members of Ukhrul District Journalists Association could see the daylight Mars in the functioning of the District hospital.

Considering the hardship of the people, after witnessing the open light mars appeals to the concern authority to look into the matter at the earliest and urged them to discharge their duty in fair manner reminding the guidelines put down by the World Health Organizations.

The Journalists organization called upon doctors and nurse of the hospital to refrain from favouritism and nepotism, also appealed to the authority concern to look into the matter.

They also drew the attention of authority to address lack of many basic amenities in the Hospital.

The only Government hospital having 50 beds have been running sub-standard for years and years, the journalist team observed.
