Patriots' Day celebrated in Senapati district

Imphal, August 13 2010: The Pariots' Day was observed today at the General Thangal Ecological Park located at Mayankhang in Senapati district under the aegis of the District Administration, Senapati and Patriots' Day Celebration Committee.

Dignitaries and people, attending the function to commemorate the day on which General Thangal and Yuvraj Tikendrajit were hanged to death by the British in 1891, offered floral tributes to the bust of General Thangal erected at the park and the portraits of Bir Tikenddrajit and Chirai Thangal.

A contingent of Senapati district police offered gun salute to the patriots on the occasion.

Chairman of the Hill Areas Committee, Manipur Legislative Assembly, MLA Thangminlien Kipgen graced the function as chief guest which was presided over by MLA M Prithviraj.

DIG Range-IV Sushilkuamr, SP of Senapati district Nisit Kumar Ujwal and chiefs of villages and other invitees sat on the dais.

Delivering speech as chief guest of the function, Chairman of HAC, Thangminlien Kipgen called for a meaningful observance of the "Patriots' Day" on August 13 .

had sacrificed not for the cause of Meiteis or Nagas or Kukis or Muslims, but for the sake of their motherland, i.e.Manipur.

For the protection of the territorial integrity of the state, all sections of the society need to live together in peace and harmony.

MLA, M Prithviraj, who presided over the function recalled that British used divide and rule policy to build disunity among the princes of Manipur and subsequently occupy the land completely.

But after the end of the British era, activities of some vested interests to build up disunity among the people of different communities residing together since a long time are still continuing.

These vested interests were spewing communal venom to the people of the hills and the valley of the state.

These people were trying to create hatred among the people of the hills and the valley.

In such situation, the state cannot march forward towards development, he observed appealing to the people to stay away from this group of people, and instead live together with mutual love, understanding and peace.

Hundreds of people from different parts of Senapati district, specially from Mayangkhang areas attended the function with full enthusiasm.
