Tamenglong, February 13, 2010: The construction of Operation Theatre building at Tamenglong District Hospital which would facilitate surgery to the patients, both rich and poor without any heavy expenditure in the district, is yet to be completed even after six years.

The construction works of the operation theatre at the district hospital here started in 2004- 2005 under the initiative of DRDA Tamenglong with RSVY and BRGF funds.

A highly placed source said, for the construction of OT building, X-ray and ICU block, a sum of Rs.48.37 lakh was sanctioned and has been released under RSVY.

For procuring the equipments and furniture for hospital, CHC and PHC, a sum of Rs.46.46 lakh was also sanctioned and released by the authority concerned.

Due to lack of Operation Theater and non-posting of specialist doctors in the hospital, even the simple case for surgery has to be sent to the state capital, Imphal incurring heavy expenditure.

It is reported that many patients lost their lives on their way for treatment as the patients was not getting treatment in timely.

In the meantime, on touring to the health department at Tamenglong District HQs the Hueiyen Lanpao News Services found that the complete or incomplete OT building stand still, there was no shed for power generator and also found some creaks on the wall of the OT building.

It is also found that the construction works under SPA for construction of Barrack type quarter with sanction amount 36,31,657 lakhs, construction of two type- IV quarters with sanction amount Rs.13, 56, 980 lakhs and construction of two type-III with sanction amount Rs.11,17,501 lakhs had taken place during last year remained incomplete.

On the other hand while talking to Hueiyen Lanpao News Services, Dr Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong said that construction of OT has been taken up by DRDA Tamenglong as work agency during the last 6 years back but till today the DRDA Tamenglong did not hands over to the health department.

Due to lack of OT and non- posting of specialist doctor at the district hospital simple cases of surgery was referred to RIMs Imphal or Shija Hospital, Imphal.

If OT building with necessary equipments and specialist available here even the poorest patient can get surgery without much expense at the district, Dr.Chambo Gonmei said.

If more facilities available here at the district hospital or if infrastructure are good many more doctors will be willing to come and stayed in Tamenglong.

At present there are only 13 doctors for one district hospital, one CHC at Nungba, six PHC and 30 sub- health Centre in the district.

With much difficulty the district hospital was run by six Medical Officers (MO) only, he said.

Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong also disclosed that if the OT building was completed again we need specialist doctors.

AS of now there was no any specialist posted here at Tamenglong, he added.

He also urged to complete the construction of OT and other quarters taken up in the health department at the earliest time and hand over the same to the health department so that the poor people can avail the facilities instead of heavy expenditure spend to get treatment at the state capital.
