Imphal, November 07: Following outbreak of Dengue in the border town of Moreh, suspected to have many lives, apart from a confirmed case of death, two medical teams of the State Health Department have been rushed there today along with the required medicines and other medical equipments to do the needful in arresting further spread of the vector borne disease spread through mosquito bite.

However, our Moreh correspondent informed that only one medical team from Chandel led by its Chief Medical Officer arrived at Moreh today.

According to reports, in view of the outbreak of the disease in Manipur for the first time, the State Health Department has responded swiftly to avoid any possible complications in handling the situation and despatched two medical teams to the border town today after an order was issued in this regard by the Health Director Dr Th Suresh.

Dengue is fortunately curable.

Soon after their arrival, the two health teams not only provided free medical treatment to the people of the border town but also collected the blood samples of all those who have been admitted to the hospital with symptoms of Dengue for further testing.

Along with carrying out mass spraying of disinfectant all over the border town, the health teams which include Microbiologists and Entomologists will also collect different types of mosquitos for laboratory testing over the next three days, the report said.

Talking to The Sangai Express at his office chamber today in this connection , Health Director Dr Th Suresh said just as the Health Department had acted at the time of outbreak of diarrhoea at the border town some three-four months back, two medical teams have been despatched today to contain outbreak of Dengue after confirming that the cause of the death of a girl from Moreh at RIMS Hospital was Dengue.

The SRL Ranbaxy Ltd, Mumbai had confirmed the disease after testing the blood sample of the girl.

Over and above this, apart from telephone contact, a fax message has also been sent to Dr Siraj Khan of Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Dibrugarh Branch to come to Imphal and conduct a thorough investigation.

Dr Siraj Khan has also responded positively and he is expected to arrive at Imphal very soon, Dr Suresh said.

To a question on report of lack of any specialist doctors at Moreh Hospital, the Director informed that the total number of specialist doctors in the State including non-clinical, clinical and dental is 151.Out of this, one Paediatrician and one Gynae specialist are posted already in Moreh Hospital.

However, due to law and order situation, the specialist doctors remain at Imphal most of the time.

Efforts would be made to sen the two specialists doctors to their place of posting very soon, the Health Director assured.

On the other hand, our Moreh correspondent reported that one medical team from Chandel led by its Chief Medical Officer Dr Indra arrived at the border town today.

Joining hands with the staff and officials of Moreh Hospital, the medical team have started taking up necessary measures to prevent further outbreak of Dengue.

Along with methylene fogging to stop mosquito breeding, publicity campaign on Dengue and its preventive measures have also been started urging the residents of the border town to keep the doors and windows of their houses opened specially from 8.30 pm to 9.39 pm to allow mosquitos to escape.

Following confirmation of outbreak of Dengue, there was fear and panic among the people of the border town who have been witnessing death of many people from a mysterious diseases in the past few months.

However, the fear and panic has been subsided after the arrival of the medical team.

Apart from the State medical team, a team from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Dibrugarh Regional Centre is also expected arrived at Moreh to study the situation.
